If you’re a virtual assistant or planning to become a VA and you’re looking for freelance websites that can help you make some extra or full-time income then you are in the right place.
I personally tried a few of these freelance website and they have made me extra cash and also a full-time income. The best think about working on these freelance websites is that you get to grow your skills, you are exposed to different clients and they are legitimate work from home jobs. As a Virtual Assistant, you can set your own hours, work as little as you desire and you can do what you love. There are many different types of Virtual Assistant. You can be a Virtual that provides Digital Marketing, Data Entry, Graphic designs, Illustrations, Video Editing and so on.
These freelance websites have different categories so they are not limited to one set of skills.
The first website is called Upwork.com. This is a freelance website that allows you to create a profile that will include your skills, hourly rates, profession, portfolio and a description of what you can do for the clients. You can also take tests to show off your skills and also boost hiring decisions. They have an entire board of tests like customer service; virtual assistant, photoshop, etc. They take 20% of each transaction you have with a client. So if your hourly rate is $20, you will receive $16 when the client pays for an hour of work. I’ve earned on average $500-$1000 per month using Upwork.com.
My personal experience or discoveries:
1. They are very strict, so no communication outside the platform.
2. It’s a very competitive market place.
3. There are many clients who want to pay no more than $3 per hour.
Another platform is Peopleperhour.com and it’s based with a lot of UK freelancers. It’s similar to upwork.com but you have lower bids amount on peopleperhour.com. I signed up for an account in the past and I wasn’t awarded with any jobs. However, I have been contacted by clients and the reason I wasn’t awarded was because of my time zone. They are in UK time and I’m in US Central Time. You can also list “hourlies” or services that you can do for a set rate.
My personal experience or discoveries:
1. UK based freelancers are most likely to get hired
2. The pay rates are much higher than many freelance websites.
3. After 3 months of free membership, you’ll have to pay $13/ mo if you were not awarded any jobs. Normally I just create another profile using another email address. The paid plan doesn’t guarantee any clients or being awarded for jobs.
Next is Guru.com. This is a freelancing website that allows you to build a profile, take tests to show off your skills and it’s very similar to upwork.com.
My personal experience or discoveries:
1. They send you a notification by email about new job matches.
2. The freelancers with no reviews or experience are harder to get awarded. I personally think so.
3. Great for website developers and content writers
The fourth is Freelancer.com. I have accounts on this freelance website but has never been awarded any jobs. I know a few persons that have been on it for 5 years and are making good money doing data entry. Freelancer.com has a lot of jobs posted every second of the day, some are repeatedly but their platform is very saturated. Also, freelancers bid on services, they offer promoted bids and the better bidder with experience normally gets awarded.
My personal experience or discoveries:
1. They have a premium membership.
2. You have to pay for tests if you want to show off your skills.
3. You have a higher chance of getting hired than on Upwork.com
Finally and my favorite! Fiverr. I love Fiverr.com, it’s how I make a full-time income online. I average $2000-$3000 per month, this freelancing website keeps me busy being productive. You sign up or join as a seller, enter some details and create your ‘gigs.’ The Gigs are services that you offer, for example, I will be your Data entry Virtual assistant or I will create a logo for your company. I will show you how you can create your gigs on Fiverr.com, how to rank #1 on their marketplace and get clients inboxing you every day in another post.
My personal experience or discoveries:
1. They take 20% fee on every order you receive.
2. They are very strict on communication outside their platform.
3. It takes 2 weeks for them to clear out funds so you can add to your paypal or payoneer account.
Comment your questions below or share this post with your friends. I will have more post coming out on how you can become a Virtual Boss.
